The success story of MEIF 2009

MEIF 2009, held in strategic partnership with the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) and with the support of the Bahrain Insurance Association, wrapped-up with a resounding commendation from the attendees confirming its stature as the event of choice for the regional insurance industry leaders.

With more than 400 senior decision-makers participating in the conference, combined with the quality of debate stimulated by the expert speaker panel, MEIF 2009 successfully exceeded even our most optimistic expectations and has now further established its position as the largest and most important annual gathering of insurance leaders in the region.

The MEIF 2009 agenda was structured such as to allow high quality discussions and delegate interaction through a series of panel sessions on, to mention just a few, product innovation and development in the Middle East; and achieving international best practice: towards international standards in the Middle East insurance industry. The delegates had the opportunity to engage in high-level networking opportunities and deliberated insights from their peers and internationally renowned industry specialists on the key issues shaping the future of the regional insurance industry.

Industry leaders gathered at MEIF 2009 agreed that an effective regulatory system and good corporate governance are paramount steps towards competitive business strategies that will sustain market growth - even more so in times of
economic turbulence.

Speaking at the conference Abdul Rahman Al Baker, Executive Director - Financial Institutions Supervision, Central Bank of Bahrain said: “The macroeconomic trends of the emerging markets such as India, China, Russia, Brazil as well as the GCC would suggest that demand for insurance products will continue to increase. The current demand for sound business conduct and transparency, as well as the enhancement of policyholders’ and shareholders’ confidence make the need for strong corporate governance for the global insurance industry greater now than ever before”.

Our sincere gratitude goes to all our partners representing Arab and international insurance and reinsurance companies, regulatory agencies, brokers and banking & finance organisations for making the 5th Annual Middle East Insurance Forum (MEIF 2009) in Bahrain such a success.
